The H400/B from Sony is powered by a powerful 63x optical zoom, 1/2.3- inch Super HAD CCD sensor enabling it to shoot crisp images at 20.1 megapixels.
It comes as one of the best DSLR bridge cameras under 30000 rupees with what Sony describes as a “super zoom focal length reach.”
Features and specs
For image processing, the Sony H400/B is fitted with the highly acclaimed BIONZ R image processing engine. Coupled with the 20.1MP sensor, the H400/B can produce high quality images of up to 5125 by 3864 pixels.
The Carl-Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens fitted in this camera is impressive and can compare with a 24.5-1550mm focal length lens in 35mm format.
The maximum lens aperture ranges between f/3.4-6.5. When it comes to shooting videos, the DSC-H400/B is not the best in the league since it can only capture 720p videos with a frame rate of 3fps.
The only upside is that you can record up to 29 minutes of video. It is also fitted with a 3in rear LCD with a resolution of 460,000 pixels.
How the H400/B compares with other cameras
The H400/B’s real forte is shooting still images, compared to similar DSLRs such as Nikon B500, Canon SX60 or the P900, it cannot keep up when it comes to shooting videos due to its lower quality 720p videos at 3fps.
This is a joke compared to a camera like Canon SX540 HS which can shoot 1080p videos at 60fps. However, when it comes to still photography, the Sony H400/B is up to par with its mates.
The image stabilization in this camera works better than that of the HS60 when fully zoomed in, however, the performance is still poor compared to more expensive, full DSLR cameras.
You will also notice the low resolution of the rear LCD screen which is almost half compared to Canon SX60-HS 922.000 dots.
The other con about the H400 compared to similar cameras is its poor burst rate or continuo us shooting speed of 0.71. However, you can capture up to 100 frames at a time, way higher compared to most bridge DSLRs.
Whether to buy Sony H400/B or not
If you are planning to use your camera for shooting still images and very little video, you should consider buying this camera.
The BIONZ R image processor coupled with its powerful lens ensure sharp and colorful images with full details. Not a bad deal at all for its price.
